Red Viper Doodle

OK, Oberyn Martell got cast for season 4 of Game of Thrones, and it's a uhh... pretty white dude. This is more how I imagined the character. Bit too ethnic, it's a bit cheap, but oh well, now it's out there.

What's that? You're Bored? Draw Game of Thrones' Mountain as a late period Disney Villain!

The great "get money together to to reprint fucked up prints" effort continues! And also, soon, real fucking work!

It is possible this thing'll get expanded. It is also possible that in the morning the sun will not rise and magic will become reality.

Just saying that 'it's possible' is a terrible expression.

Graaahhh! Hulk Hate Long Interim Between Bouts of Awareness of Social Media as Necessary Tool of Modern Age! Graaahhh!

GrAh! Hulk can't believe so much time elapse! Hulk think... Nope, I was going to write an entry as the Hulk... can't do it. Not because of the diction, but it's just that to me the Hulk's editorial voice has always been overtly political and I don't want to do a Huffington Post piece in Hulk/pidgin/english. Anyway, some big stuff coming, probably next weekend, till then just doodles....

Originally this was more Kermit related, so, you know, it made more sense that way.

Maaannnn, Looper Was So Goooood!

How good was it?!

It was sooo good, it restored my faith in challenging and original movies getting widespread releases, just in time for 2013's slate of reboots, sequels and prequels!

Seriously though. Movie was so good you could put that shit on a double bill with Rian Johnson's 2005 film Brick. That's how good. Brick good.

I did this pretty wonked on cough medicine ( I was sick, not using it recreationally) but I think I'll need to do a real one at some point, like a more than a doodle one.

The Lion CEO

So this isn't a 'project' per say, in the same way as sexting isn't really essay writing, more a brief and ill considered... uh... brief? Anyway, through a series of circumstances I found myself needing to doodle a picture of Ross Levinsohn, the current interim head of Yahoo, as a lion. Here are the results.

So, original drawing and lettering, scanned in, slightly cleaned up and turned purple

Experimenting now with maybe having more color in there...

Fuck it. Why not have some color?

Color brah. Color.

Although I fully intended to run this through Inkscape and then simplify the line-work to cut down on that sketch pencil feel, the end result of that was that the line thickness just went insane every time I tried to trace the bitmap. In the end I do kind of like the sketchy look, and time/effort constraints make it not worth it to spend five days figuring out Inkscape all over, so I can live with this.

Bejeweled Fancy Assassin Doodle

This is what happens when you absentmindedly doodle whilst listening to 36 Chambers.

St. Sebastian: Version 1

I just got a new book on Aubrey Beardsley ( one of the Dover Picture collections, these things are fantastic, and starting to make-up more an more of my library....).

Anyway, I immersed myself in it all day (when not doing whatever it is I get paid for) and when I sat down at night to doodle while having a drink and watching some Farscape, this popped out. I'll probably do another version at one point, one with more planning and less... I dunno, levitation? This image may not have been thought out especially well. I have a lot on my plate right now though, so that may take some time....

Oh, in other news, Farscape is fantastic.

People Draw Time

I got some good drawing time in at Abott's Habit in Venice this morning. I mean, good for me, not like.. objectively or whatever.
Sun-damage, man. Shit's fun to draw though.

She looked a lot like the actress Blake Lively. At one point I was like, "Am I weirding out the actress Blake Lively?"

She looked sweet. We could have been friends.

Once More, With The Hammer Of Thor

I saw Cabin In the Woods this weekend, and wowzers. Sooo coool. It actually got me pretty jazzed for The Avengers as a side-effect of its excellence, so there's that. I did a doodle of Joss Whedon doing an Avengers musical, just because.

Did you know he directed an episode of Glee?

Yeah, where did that come from?

Oswaltian

Alright, so one of the cooler things about twitter is that you get to watch celebrities interact with each other -and with the normals too- in a way mandated by the new social contract of insight into famous people's lives, or at least the lives of interns at their respective handlers' firms, which is fun. I haven't tried asking George Clooney for braising advice yet, but I think you need to work up to that one.

So I saw that a cool and forward young woman sent Patton Oswalt some fan art, and this being the internet and all, I decided to steal copy the idea.

Anyway, here's mine: Patton Oswalt kind of as Hugh Hefner circa 1965. Sort of unintentional on the doing-it-face. Oh well.

Calibos Eins

So... developments, uh... lets see....

Oh, didn't get that Mondo poster, which was a bummer, but this /Film piece does heal the pain of the loss a bit, no fooling.

Other than that, Frank's (the greatest diner that Burbank -or the world, for that matter- had to offer) is now closed, so I and countless collectors of social security checks are forced to find a new place that even comes close, which will be hard.

Other than that... Yeah, nothing. I gotta do more, uh, things I guess. Yeah -things- that's the ticket.

I've decided to try to do a picture of my childhood Harryhousen idol: Calibos. The idea came to me whilst  enviously dicking around Sam Bosma's amazing blog, and so the doodle I did looks much less like Calibos, or even something I would normally draw, and more like somebody badly imitating Sam Bosma.

So, lesson learned there I guess.

The Laddies!

So, I turned 25 today, which is upsetting at the most basic primal level of wanting to accomplish something before you turn 30. It's crunch-time now bitch.

To cheer myself up I doodled a band that is for legal purposes not in anyway related to the Fab Four.

Robot Doodle: The Beginening

This was a boredom doodle that took a long while to take hold, and which I'll probably finish tomorrow. Also, birthday, so, you know, a quarter century of good times.

Guess which one of these came along first....

My Paint Is Better Than Jeremy Irons

So, stumbled onto another cool open-source program: My Paint. It's like Corel painter (but, you know, even fewer people know what it is) and it's excellent. Been doodling for a few hours straight now, so no writing it up tonight, but it's a lot of fun, I'll try to do it this weekend...

So, big files too, as the canvas size is, I dunno, unlimited? Haven't bumped into a wall yet. Just to give you an idea of the resolution on this, here's a detail:

Yay!  A return to train drawings!
